
Pakistan Seeks Loan Deadline Extension World Bank:
Dasu Hydropower Plant
Islamabad:The Government of Pakistan has requested the World Bank to extend the deadline for the loan of Dasu Power Plan tranche submission. The request seeks an added 13-month period for the closing date of the loan. This will assist Pakistan in the completion of the transmission line from the Dasu Plant to Islamabad. The aim of this massive project is to improve the electricity supply in Pakistan while ensuring water security and provision of cheap electricity.

According to the source, the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) conveyed the request until June 30, 2025, to maintain the construction of a 765 Kilo-Volt (kV) transmission line. It will be built from the Dasu Power Plant to the Islamabad West Sub-station.
This transmission project is being conducted by the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC). The loan in total now stands at $654.5 million. The loan covers:

Designs are near completion and contractors are recently mobilized to complete the project as soon as possible. The authorities consider the project`s progress as satisfactory with dam construction already underway. The rest of the budget requirements are also under consideration for different components which will be supervised by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
